Required documents
Bring the documents that apply to your purchase. Requirements vary by lender and transaction.
For all buyers
- Valid photo ID
- Current auto insurance information
- Proof of residency, if requested by your lender
- Recent pay statements or other proof of income, if requested by your lender
Indiana residents with an Indiana driver's license
- Current Indiana driver's license
- One recent proof of residence showing your name and home address
Indiana residents with an out-of-state license
- Current out-of-state driver's license
- Two proofs of your Indiana address
- Social Security documentation for new-resident BMV transactions; a Social Security card or W-2 for an Indiana license application
- If applying for an Indiana license: proof of identity and lawful status, such as an unexpired U.S. passport or certified U.S. birth certificate
- If applying for an Indiana license: name-change documents, if your name has changed
Out-of-state residents
- Current out-of-state driver's license
- One recent proof of residence showing your name and home address
- State where the vehicle will be titled and registered
For a trade-in
- Vehicle title, if available
- Current vehicle registration
- Vehicle keys
- Lender contact details and current payoff amount, if you still have a loan
- Missing title: contact us before your visit
Examples of proof of residence
- Utility, credit card or medical bill (within 60 days for a new Indiana license)
- Recent bank statement
- Pay statement, W-2 or tax document showing your address
- Mortgage statement or current insurance policy
- U.S. Postal Service change-of-address confirmation
